The Colorado Springs climate can take a toll on your roof leaving it in need of maintenance and repairs from time to time. But, how do you know when it’s time to have a professional roofing contractor like Integrity Roofing and Painting in Colorado Springs inspect your roof? Keep an eye out for the following signs that you may need a roof repair.

Colorado Springs, CO roof repair experts

Missing and Damaged Shingles

One of most common problems that Colorado Springs homeowners experience with their roofs is missing or damaged shingles. High winds and other severe weather can wreak havoc with your roof and shingles that are damaged or have completely blown off the roof can cause major problems. Your shingles are the first line of defense against the elements which means your roof underlayment and decking could sustain damage, next, if your shingles aren’t repairs.

Missing and Damaged Vents

Vents are integral to the proper function of your roof. A roof that isn’t properly ventilated can result in condensation and moisture issues inside the home as well as damage to the roof. If you notice that your vents are damaged or missing it’s time to call in a professional for a repair.

Damaged Flashing

Flashing is the thin sheets of metal that are used to prevent water penetration into a building. Flashing is typically installed anywhere that the roof surface meets a wall, in the valleys of the roof, around any roof protrusions, and at the roofs edges. When flashing is damaged it can allow water to leak into the home causing major water damage.

Interior Signs of Leaks

Even if you can’t see signs of damage to your roof it doesn’t mean the damage isn’t there. Sometimes your roof will look fine to you, but you may start to notice signs of leaking in your home. It’s important to call a trusted roofing contractor like Integrity Roofing and Painting as soon as you notice these signs to prevent further damage and promptly repair the damage that’s already there. Some of the interior signs of a roof leak are:

  • Water Stains on Walls
  • Water Stains on Ceilings
  • Musty Smells from Unknown Source
  • Visible Mold or Mildew

Roof Age

The age of your roof plays an important role in deciding when to pursue a roof repair. If you have damage to the roof you’ll want to consider the cost effectiveness of repairing it in line with the age of the roof. When your roof is already close to reaching its life expectancy it could make more sense to replace it, but if you’ve got a nearly new roof that had a few shingles blow off in a bad storm it’s far more reasonable to have it repaired.

Selling Home

Potential home buyers are going to shy away from a home that has obvious problems with the roof. When you’re getting ready to sell your home it’s always a good idea to have a professional roof inspection done and follow it up with any necessary repairs or maintenance suggested.

Integrity Roofing and Painting is your go-to roof repair specialist in Colorado Springs. If you suspect your roof needs repaired, call us today for a free inspection.

How Much Will a New Asphalt Shingle Roof Cost in Colorado Springs? https://integrityroofingandpainting.com/asphalt-shingle-roof-cost-colorado-springs/ Fri, 22 Jul 2022 00:59:01 +0000 https://www.integrityroofingandpainting.com/?p=8223

Asphalt shingle roofs are a common choice for Colorado Springs residents. With a wide variety of styles, colors, and price points as well as durability, energy efficiency, and longevity it’s no wonder they’re so popular. If you’re considering an asphalt shingle roof for your home you might be wondering just how much it’s going to cost you.

Average Cost of a New Asphalt Shingle Roof

The average cost to install a new asphalt shingle roof on a home in Colorado Springs is between $16,000 and $40,000 depending on a variety of factors. Asphalt shingles roofing in Colorado Springs is usually between $500 to $700 per square or $5.00 to $7.00 per square foot.

trusted Colorado Springs, CO asphalt shingle roofing services

Asphalt Shingle Roof Cost by Roof Size

One of the biggest factors that will impact the cost of your new asphalt shingle roof is the size of your roof.

  • 1000 square foot roof: $5,000 to $7,000
  • 1500 square foot roof: $7,500 to $10,500
  • 2000 square foot roof: $10,000 to $14,000
  • 2500 square foot roof: $12,500 to $17,500
  • 3000 square foot roof: $15,000 to $21,000
  • 3500 square foot roof: $17,250 to $24,500

Cost to Install an Asphalt Shingle Roof on Average Colorado Springs Home

The average home size in Colorado Springs in 2022 is around 2400 square feet. This means that it would cost around $12,000 to $16,800 to install a new asphalt shingle roof on the average Colorado Springs home.

Other Factors That Impact the Cost of Your Roof

While the size of your home is an important consideration when calculating the cost of your roof, there are many other factors that will also change the price.

Pitch of Roof

The pitch of the roof refers to how steep the roof is. Roofing contractors use a pitch multiplier to determine the affect the pitch has on the size of the roof. As a roof gets steeper its surface area increases, and a larger surface area means a more expensive roof. The pitch multiplier is a standardized number assigned to each pitch that is used across the roofing industry.

Labor Costs

The cost of the labor to install your new roof will also greatly impact the overall cost of your roof. The three main considerations when determining labor cost are:

  • Number of Hours Worked
  • Number of People Working
  • Cost per Hour per Person

Complexity and Height

The complexity and height of your roof will also change the cost to install it. A simple, double gable roof will be less expensive than a roof with multiple dormers, peaks, and valleys. Likewise, a single story ranch will be less expensive than a multi-story property.

Asphalt shingle roofs are an excellent choice for Colorado Springs residents. With so many factors that can change the overall cost of your roof, it’s hard to say with accuracy what the cost will be. When you’re ready, call the expert team at Integrity Roofing and Painting to discuss your options!

What is a Presidential Shingle? https://integrityroofingandpainting.com/what-is-a-presidential-shingle/ Wed, 26 Aug 2020 18:04:10 +0000 http://integrityroofing.mysites.io/?p=7069

What is a presidential shingle, and should you invest in the upgrade?

Presidential shake type shingles are a luxury class shingle with the look of a cedar shake roof. This is a plus, especially in our Colorado Springs area and surrounding areas since roofers are no longer permitted to install cedar shake roofing systems. Cedar shakes were known to be a fire hazard, but presidential type shingles are rated class A. The industry’s highest fire rating. Presidential shingles give homes a very sophisticated look and can slightly increase the value of the property!

There are a few different classes or types of presidential shingles depending on the shingle manufacturer you choose. You have your normal presidential shingles, you have your presidential IR type, which is an impact resistant shingle and then you also have the presidential TL type shingle. TL is a tri laminate shingle. Tri laminate presidential shingles have three layers and happen to be the heaviest type of shingle available.

There are a few different shingle manufacturing companies that offer presidential type shingles.

One of Integrity Roofing and Painting’s favorite happens to be Certainteed Presidential Shake. Our team also prefers GAF’s Grand Sequoia line. These two types of presidential shingles are well known in the roofing industry. GAF happens to be the longest running manufacturer in the roofing industry, and you can read further into GAF in another blog written by Integrity Roofing and Painting, your local Colorado Springs roofer!

Certainteed offers all three types of presidential shingles listed above including the normal shake, the impact resistant, and the tri-laminate shake look. No matter the type of presidential style you decide to have installed on your roof, they all offer a transferrable warranty which covers material and labor costs due to manufacturer defects. The warranty also covers 15 years against algae or streaking along with a 110-mph wind warranty. The wind warranty can be upgraded to up to 130 mph, but does require your local roofing contractor to install using particular materials, such as a certain type of starter and a certain type of ridge cap.

Certainteed’s Presidential shake is your most common presidential type shingle when it comes to this specific manufacturer.

The original shingle to replicate real cedar shakes. It also happens to be the most cost-efficient selection in the presidential series, while still offering that cedar shake type look to give your home that sophisticated look. Presidential shake is a two-piece laminated fiberglass-based construction with a very rustic look. These shingles are available in eight different colors to suit your likes or preferences.

If you are looking for a class four impact resistant option by Certainteed, the Presidential Shake IR is the better option for you.

The Presidential Shake IR gives your roof a little more durability during weather events such as hailstorms which is quite common in the Colorado Springs and surrounding areas. Certainteed’s Presidential Shake IR shingles hold the highest impact resistance rating in the industry. Again, some insurance companies will offer a discount off your insurance premiums by having this shingle installed on your roof. We recommend confirming this with your insurance company as all companies vary. This particular shingle is available in four different color options to choose from.

“Spoke to Teresa regarding a homeowners insurance question about the type and class of the roof Integrity installed for the previous owners of the home we just bought. Teresa not only was able to answer my question, she had my insurance company’s form on file and filled it out and forwarded it to me within a few minutes; greatly easing the transfer of info to my insurance company and saving me $300.00 a year in premiums. Her professionalism and kindness convinced me that Integrity Roofing and Painting will my first choice for any future roofing or painting needs I may have.” – Chuck C. via Google Reviews

Certainteed’s Presidential Shake TL is the industry’s thickest and heaviest shingle. It is made with three layers of material making it the toughest shingle as well. This is of course an upgraded roofing system, but definitely worth the expense. This shingle is available in seven different color options.

The GAF Grand Sequoia line offers two different types of presidential shingles.

Grand Sequoia, and Grand Sequoia Armorshield. The Grand Sequoia shingles have earned the good housekeeping seal.  Grand Sequoia is your most common out of the three available options. This type is available in seven different color options. StainGuard Protection helps ensure your roof against algae that might build up on your roofing system over time. These shingles feature DuraGrip adhesive which helps to prevent shingle blow offs in high wind events. GAF offers a lifetime limited transferable warranty with non-prorated material and installation coverage for the first ten years.

Grand Sequoia Armorshield is the impact resistant presidential type that is offered by GAF.

This type is also manufactured with the StainGuard Protection and comes with the DuraGrip adhesive that the regular Grand Sequoia is manufactured with. Grand Sequoia Armoshield is available in four different color options to suit your liking or preference. As mentioned previously, impact resistant usually helps to qualify your roof for discounted premiums.

Overall, if you are looking to upgrade your roofing system, Certainteed’s Presidential Shake series or GAF Grand Sequoia’s line is highly recommended.

Presidential shingle roofing systems are an upgrade, so you can expect to see a slight price increase than your average asphalt shingles, but some insurance companies do offer a discount off of your premiums for having an impact resistant presidential style shingle. That might be something to check with your insurance company for further details and information on. Integrity Roofing and Painting, LLC is your local Colorado Springs roofer, in business since 1990. Give us a call for your roof inspection today!

“Sebastian made the completion of repairing my roof super easy. The IRP team’s expertise got me an upgraded roof and the work was done is one day. Definitely will use them again when the time comes.” – Kristian B. via Google ReviewsWhat

How Can I Know if a Colorado Springs Roofer is legitimate? https://integrityroofingandpainting.com/how-can-i-know-if-a-colorado-springs-roofer-is-legitimate/ Fri, 17 Apr 2020 23:02:14 +0000 http://integrityroofing.mysites.io/?p=5251

If you have ever lived through a large hailstorm or hurricane, you will understand that a secondary storm occurs after the weather related one. A flood of roofing contractors shows up at your door, all promising to be the best local company there is. Unfortunately, scammers show up as well, ready to take advantage in a stressful situation.

How do you know that the roofing contractor you are considering using is legitimate?

If you are dealing with a hail or hurricane claim, there is a significant amount of money being invested in restoring you home to pre-storm condition. You need to know that you can trust the contractor you are hiring to complete these repairs. It is important to spend time vetting the roofing companies before you have any work done.

There are easy ways to vet a roofing company online. A great way to start the search is to look them up on the Better Business Bureau. This independent third-party organization rates each company and keeps records of all complaints and posted client reviews on companies, whether they are members or not. Details of any complaint and whether it was resolved are available online.  It cost money for a company to join the BBB. Each local area has their own charter.

If a company has invested in a BBB membership it shows that they are agreeing to be held to a high standard. When a company has maintained very high standards, the BBB allows them to become an Accredited Business. This does cost additional money for the company, but not all companies are allowed to obtain this status. It is a very good sign if they are an Accredited Business with the local BBB.  It is important to check the date the company joined the local BBB.

Out of town storm chasers can join immediately after a storm and give the impression they have been local for a long time because they are members of the local BBB. This is available on their company profile. You can find out a great deal about how a company does business on the BBB.org website.

Reading what their clients have to say on online reviews are helpful.

Google reviews are a main source of reviews.

Read through the reviews carefully, paying attention to the responses of the company to the clients’ comments. If they have five stars on only one review, the rating is not as reliable. If they have hundreds of reviews, then you will see a pattern of client satisfaction. If all the reviews were posted in the last month, they are not likely to be organic. Look for longevity of reviews.

Consumers are quick to post about negative experiences, so having a lot of positive reviews makes a very strong statement! There is usually more information with photos of the company included in the Google online profile that will give additional information that the company shares about itself. In order to post a google review, one must have a google email.

Google is the main place to find reviews, but there many are others. Google the company’s name and you will see many other sites where reviews are left.  A personal observation about using Yelp to find out more about a company–Yelp tends to highlight more of the negative than positive reviews. If you are looking on Yelp, be sure to read the “Unrecommended” reviews. These may be left by yelpers who have less than ten reviews, but this is also where many of the positive reviews are stashed away. You will get a better view of the company if you read the Unrecommended reviews as well.

A less obvious, but also less subjective place to research your prospective roofing contractors is on the local building department website. It has a list of all contractors that are licensed to work in your area. You can see which license they have, if their contractor license is up to date, and sometimes it shows when it was granted initially. There will be information about if they have workers comp insurance and general liability or if they signed a waiver declining to get it. Expired permits from previous jobs will be available in some cases.  This will show you how responsible they are to the governing building division.

If you are in a large metropolitan area like Denver, there are over thirty licenses that can be held, so some companies may choose to reactivate after a storm instead of paying for annual licenses in that smaller area. In this case, check to see if they are previously licensed and if any issues arose that would have caused them to lose their license. Knowing the local building codes is critical and this will eliminate the complications of hiring a unlicensed roofer who illegally builds without a permit or fails to follow local codes resulting in a failed inspection that is unresolved.

The Roofing Company’s Office

While the internet has made it easy to find information conveniently, it will not replace the gut feeling you get by visiting the roofing company’s office. A brick and mortar local company will have a real place for you to visit to get the feel of their company. Find out when their business hours are and show up unannounced. This will give you a true feeling of their culture and the value they place on customer service.

A few years ago I had a visit from an elderly gentleman who came in to our office wanting our help. He had hired a company that pretended to be local, even had a good rating from the local BBB. The address they used was very close to his house. When he went to discuss an issue after the roof was built, he found the address they used was an empty parking lot. They used a PO Box for mail but had no real physical office. They were from Oklahoma and unwilling to take care of the issues he was having with his roof. He was hoping we could help him sort out a payment dispute on an un-permitted roof that was leaking. They had left town and left him with a bad situation. A site visit would have prevented this horrible situation.

What about Home Advisor or Porch or the other sites that provide names of contractors to you?

These are not as reliable of sources for a true picture of who a company is. They are paid lead services. The contractor pays the site for each lead. No significant vetting takes place. It is a way for contractors to get easy leads without advertising.  A lot of contractors use this starting out until they are established. This may not be the best source for finding a quality roofing contractor.

What about using a contractor on the insurance company’s preferred list?

These are contractors that indirectly work for the insurance company. They agree to complete the work for whatever the insurance suggests on its initial offer in exchange for volume of work. Many do this to avoid having to find their own jobs. If an initial claim summary omits components, the contractor is obligate to do the work per the insurance claim or at least the initial insurance pricing. This is not always in your best interest. It can streamline the process but does not encourage quality work on the part of the contractor.

Hiring a roofing contractor after a storm can be scary, stressful even overwhelming in some cases. Take time to do a little research and pay a site visit. You will find the process is less daunting that it initially seems. You can feel confident that you are hiring the contractor that will provide quality service with a positive experience.

Colorado Springs Roofer | Coronavirus https://integrityroofingandpainting.com/colorado-springs-roofer-coronavirus/ Tue, 14 Apr 2020 16:19:56 +0000 http://integrityroofing.mysites.io/?p=5290 With current standards for social distancing every Colorado Springs roofer should adjust how the roofing team tears off existing roofs, cleans existing roofs, installs underlayment, flashing and the balance of the roof system. Most crews have developed long term practices founded in team work. This is a core foundation for most organizations. It will be a challenge for roof installers to stay six feet away from each other.

Colorado Springs roofers will need to develop new practices in this season to avoid unnecessary contact with one another.

Many roof installers have long standing practices within their structures. Some crews are structured to where the newest team members to the veterans all pitch in and remove shingles, underlayment and flashing on the same roof slope. We like this process and many if not almost every Colorado Springs roofer practices this process to some degree or another. One of the big benefits of removing shingle debris and the old roof system one slope at a time is for part of the team to drop by and begin to clean the deck and than to install roof underlayment.

We are going to do our best to work with our teams to practice social distancing and to help the redesign their system to meet government standards at this time. Colorado Springs roofers will need to develop new practices in this season to avoid unnecessary contact with one another. Integrity Roofing and Painting prefers for the roofing team to work together during the tear off.

Integrity Roofing and Painting is practicing social distancing

We will do our part to develop new systems that still allows us to remove the existing roof quickly and to cover it before a weather related event has an opportunity to create a problem.

This new way will be a juggling act in this season for roofers. I hope that everyone takes this seriously at this time. The roofing foreman will need to be a competent person and willing to confront the team as necessary to help prevent the potential spread of coronavirus while balancing the need to protect the structure from potential water penetration.

I would rather doubt that any roofing company in Colorado Springs had a contingency plan for social distancing on the roof. Integrity Roofing and Painting is practicing social distancing in our office and we have reduced the number of people in the office at this time. In addition, everyone is practicing continual hand washing and sanitizing of work spaces.

Transportation During the Pandemic

One of the areas where Colorado Springs roofers need to modify is transportation. Most roof installers ride together. This may need to change in order to meet more stricter restrictions mandated by governing jurisdictions. I highly suggest that roofers begin to drive their personal vehicles to job sites rather than ride sharing at this time.

Homeowners should exercise grace with roofers for showing in 4-10 vehicles rather than 1-2 trucks at this time. This is certainly challenging for wooded suburban properties if everyone in the crew wants to park in a driveway. I’d highly recommend for Colorado Springs roofers to park on the street at this time rather than the driveway. For the most part we already practice parking on streets rather than driveways unless it is rural in the drives are long.

Integrity is taking it Seriously

I’m hoping that roofers will take this seriously at this time. We come from many different backgrounds, cultures, nations and experiences. This is not the time for bravery or to be fool hearty. We are all being called upon to do our part and our part we should do. However, everyone should be gracious for many segments of our society have no fear.

Currently one of the buzzwords is that millennials have no fear and that it’s only the older population that’s really at danger. This may be so, but it’s all above my pay grade and everyone is being called upon to make sacrifices at this time. I am asking all of my fellow roofers to cooperate with these guidelines and do the best we can in this system to modify our current and historical ways of roof production.

We are all looking forward to transitioning back into the American way here in Colorado. The sooner this virus is mitigated and hopefully eradicated we can go back to business.

Metal Roofing Materials from China

I know that no one fully knows the economic and social impact of coronavirus to Colorado and the nations on earth. Most if not all metal roofing products are made in China. I would imagine we may see a significant shortage of materials nation wide as we enter into storm season. There may be other raw materials that I’m not aware of that go into the production of asphalt shingles, synthetic underlayment and self adhering underlayment that are from China. This is a national and world wide shaking and everyone will be impacted by this virus in one fashion or another. We will soon begin to fill the impact of roofing shortages over the summer. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think so.

Integrity Has a Solid Financial Foundation

Roofing companies in Colorado Springs that have not been built on a solid foundation may become obsolete. I’ve been in business for several decades and we’ve structured Integrity Roofing and Painting with layers of contingencies. We expect the unexpected and have planned for such a time as this. We believe that this is only the beginning of world wide shakings to come. We are prepared for a big recession, however a depression is another thing entirely.

We believe that this year will reveal the weak sports in roofing companies in Colorado and it will reveal character in this season. You can rest assured that we will continue to exercise integrity in all of our transactions as we always have. Our team is prepared and able to service your roofing needs during this season.

I’m afraid that installers working for Colorado Springs roofing companies may experience difficulty in the future. Historically during downturns I have seen companies rob from Peter to pay Paul. We have systems in place to where all monies are in a trust used for materials and labor. I’m afraid that the very thing that people are afraid of will ending hurting them. Legitimate Colorado Springs roofing companies should hold deposits in trusts thereby running a solid well economically balanced business.

During this season roofing companies that require no money down will go out of business as homeowners choose to defraud these companies of their money. Here at Integrity Roofing and Painting we’re looking to continue our win, win model that has made us one of the best and strong roofing companies in Colorado.

Impact Resistant Class 4 Shingles – Some Comparisons https://integrityroofingandpainting.com/class-iv-shingle-comparisons/ Mon, 30 Mar 2020 19:31:38 +0000 http://integrityroofing.mysites.io/?p=5294 The Value of Impact Resistant Shingles in Colorado Springs

Roofers that have been roofing Colorado Springs for many years understand the value of using impact resistant class 4 shingles. There are many, many different types of roofing systems available to homeowners these days. Asphalt shingle roofs are the most common roofing system here in Colorado Springs. A house is typically one’s largest investment, so how do you know what type of shingle to have installed on your roof? This blog post will inform you about class 4 (iv) shingles, and the differences between the different types.

What is a Class 4 Shingle?

Let’s get into that! Typically classified as a thirty-year shingle, you have your normal, basic asphalt shingle. In addition to that, you have a class 4 impact resistant shingle. The difference is the structure in how these shingles are made. Impact resistant shingles are designed to withstand higher than normal wind speeds or a hailstorm producing fair sized hail stones. By no means are impact resistant shingles hail proof! Hail proof shingles are nonexistent, remember that.

Shingles that have been labeled as class 4 do withhold an impact resistance rating of UL 2218.

What does UL 2218 mean?

UL 2218 is actually the test that the roofing industry uses to test shingles against the impact of hail. This testing system includes dropping different sized balls of steel at different heights to rate or grade the impact of the hit so to speak. Fun fact, the Insurance Institute for Business and Home safety concluded that IR shingles with SBS integration performed better than your traditional impact resistant shingles with up to a 50% improvement for all four different tests, wow!

A large majority of Colorado Springs roofers try to convince homeowners to upgrade their roofing system to a class four shingle, without giving the good and the bad. Impact resistant shingles are indeed an upgrade from your typical thirty-year shingle. They are of a higher quality. Not to mention, some insurance companies, typically your most commonly known insurance companies will offer policy holders a discount on their premiums. As of 2020, this is typically up to twenty seven percent! Wow, that’s incredible! Who doesn’t like to save money?

The Pros and Cons of Class 4 Shingles

As great as all of this information sounds, sometimes class four impact resistant shingles are not the best choice. Why do I say this? Well, the reason for this is since class four shingles are able to withstand a higher-level impact or higher wind speed, the damage is not always considered functional. After a hail storm, you might see granule loss or slight damage across your roof, well insurance adjusters work daily with cosmetic vs functional damage and as you might have read in a previous blog post, damage is only considered functional if it affects the lifespan of the roof itself, or if the damage reduces the water shedding capability to the roof’s eaves. If the damage is not functional, it is merely cosmetic and not likely to be bought by the adjuster or your insurance company. So unfortunately, your roof might look like it’s been through “hail and back,” but it might not be enough to warrant an insurance claim.

Different Types of Class Four Impact Resistant Shingles

Let’s review a few different types of class four impact resistant shingles, shall we. One manufacturing company that we here at Integrity Roofing and Painting prefer is GAF. GAF happens to be America’s leading and largest roofing manufacturer! Now that’s an accomplishment! GAF offers an impact resistant shingle which is the “Timberline Armorshield II.” One of the reason’s we here at Integrity Roofing and Painting really enjoy installing this shingle is the SBS technology.

What is SBS technology?

SBS stands for styrene-butadiene-styrene. What does that mean for the shingle? Well it means that the Armorshield II shingle is composed of not just your average asphalt, but a synthetic rubber or a thermo plastic elastomer that increases abrasion resistance and aging. It gives it those properties of elastic and greater flexibility. These shingles when installed properly hold a 130mph wind rating, not to mention GAF offers an impact resistant ridge cap to support the same specifications as your entire roof! This type of shingle does come in a variety of colors, seven colors to be exact. GAF’s shingles have a distinctive shadow line to them. They use what they call a feather look, which provides a beautiful shadow and contract line in color.

Another highly favored manufacturer that offers an incredible class iv impact resistant shingle is Owens Corning. You might already be familiar with Owens Corning’s pink panther inside of your house because along with roofing material, they also produce insulation for many homes.

Owens Corning actually offers two different types of impact resistant shingles, Duration Storm and also their newest product Duration Flex.

What are the differences you might ask?

Duration Storm is your fairly average class four impact resistant shingle with the exception of the SureNail technology. The sure nail strip is a mechanically fastened fabric strip across the average nailing area, the entire way across a shingle. This acts as a reinforcement for the nails, which provide more support to hold against pulling which is especially helpful in high speed windstorms. Owens corning claims that the SureNail technology provides a 42% better nail-pull resistance than your typical shingle. Duration Storm comes in seven different color options with again, a wonderful looking color scheme with contrast and beautiful shadow lines. Installed properly with the correct amount of nails, these shingles are rated at a 130mph wind rating.

Duration Flex, similar to the GAF Armorshield II incorporates the SBS mentioned earlier in this blog! Not only do these shingles have more durability than the duration storm but they also have more flexibility with that SBS integration. As the duration storm shingles, these also come in a variety of seven different colors. Owens Corning also offers an impact resistant/ SBS ridge cap to integrate into your Duration Flex roofing system.

Integrity Roofing and Painting is a local contractor. We have been roofing Colorado Springs for over a decade. We have been in business since 1990. Our team here at Integrity Roofing and Painting has actually completed multiple tests using different types of class four impact resistant shingles that are available for viewing on our YouTube channel! Christmas Toy Drive

Christmas Toy Drive drop

Please drop off toys at 115 N Union Blvd

We are excited to be able to bring hope, love and toys to kids and families in our community this Christmas. It’s been said, “It’s better to give than to receive.” I can tell you from experience that giving to others releases joy into my heart. This Christmas season Integrity Roofing and Painting, LLC is asking you to join us in a new narrative by giving to those in need in our community. Beginning October 30, 2017 we are launching a Christmas toy drive and we would love for you to participate. Our doors are open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and we are inviting you to drop off new unwrapped toys at our office at 115 N Union Blvd in Colorado Springs. It is our desire to reach as many needy families and especially single moms this season. We love people and there are many hurting families in our community. Many Mothers are stretched to their limits financially and are unable to provide Christmas gifts for their children. This is where we can help out in a tremendous way. The more toys that are donated the more people we can reach.

Integrity Missions has been helping people in our community for years, but my heart is broken. We have not been able to impact people as much as we would like. My heart aches over the number of teen suicides in El Paso County. Our missions team will be looking to connect with youth this season. We have a team of several Pastors and Counselors that work with Integrity Roofing and Painting, LLC. As we are distributing toys to kids we would like to be able to hand out $25 gift cards to teenagers. Realizing that money is not going to change a teenager, but a gift from a stranger will peak their curiosity. It is at this time that we pray open doors will be made so our Pastors and Counselors can speak life into the hearts of teens that we meet. Please consider donating $25 pre-paid gift cards this season. Our team has been used by God to rescue people from desperate situations in the past and we know we will be used in this season to speak life into broken hearts. Your $25 Visa pre-paid gift card may be the very thing that unlocks the door to a teens heart and helps to rescue their life.

Christmas can be an exciting time for many, but for others it can be an incredibly depressing time. Mothers and Fathers may become depressed if they are not able to financially purchase gifts for their kids. Many people feel over looked, unimportant and unloved. There are many lonely and hurting people in Colorado Springs and we can make a difference. We want to impact everyone that we meet. Integrity Missions will be giving cookies or small bags of popcorn to the adults and we will love on them too. No one is going to be excluded from this Christmas conspiracy of kindness. We want to love on all people. Integrity Roofing and Painting, LLC will be providing the gifts for the adults. We will need toys and gift cards for kids and teens.

Our team also consists of 2 Praise and Worship Ministers that will be leading a group of carolers as we go door to door sharing Christmas cheer. If Santa Clause is available we are going to invite him to come. This is going to be a grand time. We do not have a set date for distribution for it is our desire that we will have an over flow of toys requiring multiple trips. If we start receiving a large number of toys in early November we will begin distributing toys in November. If we receive many toys, we are going to provide single moms that are in need with enough toys for Christmas morning. This is our desire. Please help make this a reality.

There are several things that will make this toy drive different. We are going to take the toys to the community to love on people where they live. Our Christmas carolers will be singing of good cheer. Pastors and counselors will be passing out the toys and praying for people. We will also identify families that have special needs in which we hope to help with additional toys for all of their kids. My hearts desire is that we will be used by God to rescue teens from suicide this season.

Many people are desperate and we know the answer. The greatest rescue mission came to fruition 2,000 years ago to save that which was lost. Jesus Christ so desires that everyone know Him and it is our desire as Christians to make Jesus known this Christmas. We will rescue lives this season and you are invited into this story.

Please drop off unwrapped new toys and/or gift cards at 115 N. Union Blvd in Colorado Springs. The toy drive is from October 30 – December 1, 2017. Our doors will be open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. We will be closed November 22-24 for Thanksgiving.

Merry Christmas

Self Adhering Underlayment https://integrityroofingandpainting.com/self-adhering-underlayment/ Wed, 19 Oct 2016 18:25:07 +0000 https://integrity.wh70xmaq-liquidwebsites.com/?p=4406 Self Adhering underlayment is a relatively new product to the roofing industry. It’s been around for less than twenty years, but oh thank goodness for the ingenuity of shingle manufacturers to produce this product. This self adhering modified bitumen product comes in rolls of one and two squares and creates a moisture barrier by sealing to the deck and around nails for the best protection that any underlayment can provide. This is the final layer of defense for ice dams that minimizes water penetration or totally prevents water penetration. Many of the modern roofers Colorado Springs has seen recently have adopted the self adhering underlayment as a fabulous tool for their arsenal of roofing products.

One of the unique features of this product is that it comes with or without granules. At Integrity Roofing and Painting we are currently applying the granulated product, we appreciate the added bonus of skid resistance for safety and ease of application. This is a superior product to one of the old school methods of applying plastic cement between two rolls of felt. This old method was used several decades past in areas of ice damming. The self adhering underlayment better known as ice and water shield is tear resistant whereas two cemented rolls of felt were not. Most modern installers are using ice and water shield for one or more roof applications.

Some of the Benefits of Self Adhering Underlayment

  • Tear resistant
  • Seals tight around nails to prevent water penetration
  • Mitigates against water damage
  • Last line of defense
  • Self adhering
  • This product does not expand and contract
  • Enhanced grip for installers
  • Flexible SBS modified asphalt
  • Reinforced strong fiberglass
  • High temperature resistance
  • This product can be left exposed to the elements for up to 90 days
  • Meets ASTM D 19970
  • Approved by local roofing code

Local installs know that while roofing Colorado Springs homes that are above 7000 feet, self adhering underlayment is required on the eaves. This is a little tricky and many times I have observed home builders installing only one row of ice and water shield on the eaves where code may require two rows. There are no mid-roof inspections for asphalt shingles and some roofers and builders take advantage of the inspection system. My home that I purchased in Monument doesn’t have any ice and water shield on the eaves and for the life of me I don’t know how the builder got away with it. El Paso County building code requires the ice and water shield to extend to a minimum of 24″ onto the interior of the home on all eaves of every home that is above 7000 feet elevation in El Paso County. If the self adhering underlayment is installed correctly it will help to minimize water intrusion from ice damming.

Another application for self adhering underlayment is in the roof valley. The valleys on the roof are located where two roofs come together and form a water trough on the roof. Historically most every roofer Colorado Springs saw in the 1990s and earlier would install valley metal and in some cases roll roofing would be installed. However, some roofers would cut corners and only install felt paper in the valleys. This was a practice used by some builders to save money.

Several brands of Self Adhering Underlayment

  • Certainteed WinterGuard
  • Tamko Moisture Guard
  • Owens Corning Weather Lock
  • GAF Weather Watch
  • GAF Weather Guard
  • Atlas Weather Master
  • IKO Armor Guard
  • Grace Ice and Water Shield

If allowed by local building codes one of the ways to provide superior protection to low pitched 2/12 to 4/12 roofs is to install self adhering underlayment. Traditional method is to install two layers of 15# felt according to code and shingle manufacturers installation instructions. On lower pitched roofs there is a possibility of capillary action where water travels uphill. Yelp, water can travel uphill. Additionally, when you mix snow and ice dams into the equation your best line of defense may be to cover the entire low sloped roof in ice and water shield.

Another area that is vulnerable on a roof to water penetration is where the sloped roof meets a vertical wall, ice and water shield is a perfect product for this area. We recommend the installation of ice and water shield prior to install L-flashing or step flashing. If working on a roof replacement project it’s easier to install 18″ x 10′ pieces of water shield. If you try to slide a 36″ x 20′ piece of water shield underneath of L-flashing it’s unlikely that you’ll succeed, unless it’s being installed in cold weather. That brings up another point of discussion.

Cold weather installation of self adhering underlayment is a little different than in warmer weather. There are some benefits to cold weather installs and some disadvantages. Regardless of the time of the year ice and water shield can be installed unless it’s too cold.

Benefits of Cold Weather application of Ice and Water Shield

  • The self adhering glue does not activate immediately in cold weather which will allow more time to position the product on the roof.
  • This is advantageous for installing full sheets of ice and water shield underneath of L-flashing.
  • Easy for one person to install ice and water shield in valleys
  • Easy for one person to roll out long distances of ice and water shield

Disadvantages of Cold Weather application of Ice and Water Shield

  • The self adhering underlayment will need to be fastened with nails
  • Water intrusion may occur before the product seals
  • If debris is driven between the ice and water shield and the deck surface this product may never seal

Use ice and water shield around chimneys, valleys, skylights, walls, pipe penetrations and low slope. This product is idea for roof repairs in Colorado Springs, new roofs or roof replacements. You can’t go wrong with this product especially designed for leak prone areas. This is a new comer to the roofing industry and it’s here to stay. This product should be used by all roofers everywhere.

If you’re looking one of the most trusted roofers that Colorado Springs and Denver has to offer than contact Integrity Roofing and Painting, LLC.

We Desire to Do Great Things! https://integrityroofingandpainting.com/we-desire-to-do-great-things/ Wed, 28 Sep 2016 15:52:45 +0000 https://integrity.wh70xmaq-liquidwebsites.com/?p=4361 In every man at every epoch in each millennial, mankind has felt an innate call to greatness. This is not uniques to our nation, culture or color this runs the span of humanity, across oceans and mountains. This is part of our very core, calling and DNA. There is no question that each man has sensed this call. From birth males begin to spar in battle. They want to win, conquer and excel. This is without question complex for each society, ethnic group and peoples to define exactly what greatness is and how it looks for each generation. This is something that has called me, drawn and plagued the very depths of my soul. Where and when are men called to settle for mediocrity and neglect the call to be great?

At what point do we say the sacrifice and attainment of that which is great and to be great is not worth the price? This I have fixated my eyes upon and have failed to reconcile the tension between average, satisfactory and great. That which is within me says, “In all this is done it should be our desire to function with a spirit of excellence. To say that it’s good enough doesn’t register right within me.” There are limits to our excellence and each should be aware of their limits. That in itself is a measure of greatness. To recognize ones frailty and limits of ability is a measure of wisdom and humility and that in itself is truly precious, priceless and great. With that being said, I know that I can not do this on my own. Life, business, greatness is not possible in a vacuum. With truth and reality set into motion I find myself at the place of knowing, realizing and experiencing depths of inability to answer questions, therefore I as a servant leader have no answers to certain questions that plaque my soul in this hour. I’ve seen things in human nature that have been revealed, exposed and brought to light in the aftermath of the largest hailstorm in Colorado Springs history.

Experience is a great teacher, yet there is great danger in our experience if it’s not properly filtered. Unfiltered experience may result in bitterness of experience resulting in increased tension and angry tones. First, I’ll share a recurring experience. Since the record hailstorm we’ve seen many of our clients break their word and refuse to honor contracts only to go after other roofers that were willing to commit fraud. This has broken my heart and wounded my soul. My new tendency is to quickly pass judgement on those that were willing to trade their word for money. It has become rather easy for me to see these ones as being mastered by money and a slave to it. That pronouncement of judgement although it may be correct is wrong. I repent to everyone in whom my heart has made this judgement. At the same time I hope that our community doesn’t see insurance companies incorrectly as a source of welfare, betterment or economic windfall. Please forgive me for angry tones and measures of bitterness in my soul. May I be granted the grace needed to work these things out of my heart.

We all see through the glass dimly and our filters either taint relationships or help relationships. Here at Integrity Roofing and Painting, LLC it is truly our desire to be a blessing to everyone that we meet and those that choose our roofing service and the way we go about the entire restoration process we truly want our relationship to be a win, win situation. If anyone doesn’t sense that we desire to give them our best in the aftermath of the largest storm in Colorado Springs history than I’d appreciate an opportunity to speak with this person. At this time I truly understand the demands and logistics of this season and would like to properly convey the current environment and depths of difficulty at this time for ourselves and every other roofer in Colorado Springs.

At this time I want everyone to know that we truly desire to be great, to do what’s right, to honor God and country. We really want to do this, but this is not business as usual for everyone that has been roofing Colorado Springs residences realizes that his storm has created very complex issues and some of these issues will only be revealed on a need to know basis. Other issues are common to every roofing contractor in our area at this time and it will impact their ability to deliver jobs at their highest level. Some companies may convey a different message at this time than what is reality. Rest assured that the aftermath of the recent storm has caused tensions, strains and logistical issues that are not only problematic, but reflective of some serious issues in our society.

Here at Integrity Roofing and Painting, LLC we have not been pursuing money, we’ve been pursuing relationships and excellence in service. This is still our pursuit, however external forces will limit our ability to develop relationships at the level that we normally are able to attain. In many ways some of our clients may feel abandoned, but that is not our attention. The truth of the matter is that no one had any idea that over 40,000 roofs were damaged in Colorado Springs from the recent storm. We commit ourselves to seeing this through and will learn from this experience. While I see we are not pursuing money allow me to elaborate. We will nor pursue money incorrectly. One of our mottos is, “We make roof replacements easy.” This is truly our desire and we do an excellent job at it. Today there are some misconceptions that pervade all streams of media. We have taken some heat for not giving inspections. This was my decision and it was the right decision. After 30+ years of construction and insurance experience I know that we are exercising integrity when we chose to only work off of insurance Xactimate pricing. Many people have been offended that we would not give an inspection. The volatility of pricing in our present market calls for wisdom on the contractor, therefore understanding the demand of the season, Integrity Roofing and Painting, LLC shall not be locked into a price when we know that our expenses may go up 10-20 percent during the aftermath of this storm. We have no desire to lose money. We desire to sustain wise business practices and sound accounting principles. Trust us when we say that it’s beneficial for everyone to not be locked into an exact price in this chaotic environment. Insurance companies know of the price increases and most are changing prices monthly to compensate roofers. We have to be in relationship with homeowners that understand this is agree to the necessity of allowing us the ability to supplement all roof scopes at this time with every insurance company.

Any one that understands insurance knows that they only have to pay their deductible. As a result of this understanding our experience is that people want to try and figure a way to pocket some insurance money. We will not participate in insurance fraud, therefore we have not given roof inspections at this time. As a group we have a large collection of conversations and experiences with homeowners that exposed themselves by stating that they wanted to find a roofer that would do the work for less and than to have that roofer send false documents to the insurance company at an inflated amount. We are not that company so you may as well not ask us to do it nor should you waste your time in calling us.

If you’re are ethical and you’re looking for someone that has been roofing Colorado Springs ethically for many years than contact us. If you’ve filtered life in such a way that greatness is only about your bottom dollar or cheating the system than don’t call us and ask for a roof bid. We will not participate in any scheme concocted by a homeowner to defund the insurance process. If you want someone to help you in the insurance restoration process and you’re willing to work with someone that’s fighting a good fight, although we are not perfect it is our desire to be great. We know that we can’t please everyone and that not all people are meant to be in a relationship. If you’re a fit for the way we do business than we’d love to install a roof on your home.

If you chose to defraud the insurance company we will not judge you. Everyone has a choice. We’ve been in this industry for decades. Our perception will be different than most people and even other roofers. We just want to function with a sprit of excellence, even in our imperfection, knowing that we’ve done all that we can do to live life well and for lives to end knowing that we did life correctly. That’s our perspective.

We desire the best for everyone and hope that all have the discernment to do what’s right.

Consider the Following example of someone wanting an inspection when they already have the inspection from the insurance company:

Jamie Leigh

I live near Security area where we had horrible hail damage. I called Integrity to get an inspection and Vince came out to my property to look it over. He said that he could either write me an inspection or base the inspection on my insurance claim. There is no reason that they should not provide an inspection. We wanted three inspections that detailed the scope of work to be performed and the cost so that we could compare as you should always do when hiring a contractor and then we could choose (not necessarily the best price) but the best value for what we needed done. When I called him back to ask for the inspection, he said “we have so many projects going right now, that we are not doing inspections for anyone unless you turn over your insurance information and we can write the inspection based on your claim numbers”. This is incredibly shady to me. There should be no reason for them to decline giving me an inspection for a re-roof. I will share my claim information with the contractor I choose to hire but for this company to even decline giving me an inspection without seeing the numbers on my claim is completely dishonest. Talk about zero transparency and honesty. I just cannot believe he said that. They wasted my time to come out and provide an inspection and then wouldn’t give me one. Other roofing contractors I have called, said it’s no problem, they can give me an inspection and then if we decide to hire them, we can go over the claim info and get everything finalized in the agreement. Integrity is obviously lacking in ‘Integrity’ because they won’t tell you what your roof should cost to replace up front. Not until they see your insurance claim. I would never trust someone that does business that way and I work in the construction industry. That is why I am taking the time to write a review.

Helpful?

Response from the owner a month ago
Jamie, thank you for calling me today to discuss this. While we will continue to disagree about our position to suspend generating inspections during this current storm, we will continue our position that it is ethical to work for what the insurance determines is the price for the roof. As we discussed, our estimating software is Xactimate so our inspections will end up matching the insurance claim summaries anyway. We are going to continue simplifying and streamlining the process by agreeing to work off claim summaries instead of generating matching bids. Thank you for your feedback and I appreciate that you are passionate about your view. I am glad you have multiple bids from other roofers and will have several from which to choose. Best of luck with your repairs.
